Repeat prescriptions can be ordered in the following ways:

• In person – bring your repeat slip to reception, or leave it in the box in the surgery. Make sure you clearly mark which medications you need.
• By post – send it to us with a stamped addressed envelope if you want it posted back to you.

Online – You can follow the link at the top of this page to complete a simple registration form. You can also order a prescription on the NHS App. 

You can change your nominated pharmacy:

• on the NHS app
• by writing this information on the slip provided by the surgery
• by writing it on the note you post to us

Please note that we are unable to accept prescriptions requested via email. 

Should you wish to raise a query over your medication, you can:

• write to us
• e-mail us

We will then pass your query on to the appropriate person.

Medication Reviews

If you are on a repeat medication, we will ask you to be have an annual review with a GP or Pharmacist.

When this is due, a notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions, or contact us for more information.

Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

Pharmacy First

Free advice and treatment for minor illnesses such as;

• Aches and Pains
• Allergies
• Cold and Flu
• Ear Care
• Eye Care
• Stomach Aches
• Head Lice
• Any Skin or Mouth Problem

If your condition is more serious, the pharmacist will then refer you to your GP.

Getting the Right Help

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs). Find out whether you may be entitled to help, here. You can also download an HC1 Claim for help with health costs form, or pop in to the surgery and ask us for one.

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

Prescription (per item): £9.65

12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60

3-month PPC: £31.25

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

Exemptions

Exemption forms are available at the surgery and are available to anyone who can declare that they have:

- A permanent fistula (i.e. colostomy, laryngostomy, ileostomy) requiring continuous surgical dressing or requiring an applianc

- Epilepsy for which continuous anti-convulsive therapy is require

- Diabetes mellitus which is not solely controlled by diet

- Myxoedema (that is, Hypoparathyroidism requiring thyroid hormone replacement

- Hypoparathyroidism

- Diabetes insipidus or other forms of hypopituitarism

- Forms of hypoadrenalism (incl. Addison's disease) for which specific substitution therapy is essential

- Myasthenia gravis

- A continuing physical disability which means you cannot go out without the assistance of another person(s). Temporary disabilities do not count even if they last for several months

- Cancer and are undergoing treatments for the effects of cancer or the effects or current or previous cancer treatment

Forms must be first filled out by the patient and then will be handed to the GP for signing. Once the GP has completed their part, we will contact you to inform you the form is ready to collect and you can then post it on to the NHSBSA.

You may wish to delay a period if it is due at a time that would be inconvenient, such as a holiday or exam. If you are not already taking 'the pill' then a hormone tablet could be prescribed for this.
